I don't think power has anything to do with a person being corrupted, its the person who chooses to be corrupt by using power as a tool. Its an individuals choice to choose the path , power helps greatly in both paths i.e in good & bad,
yaps Power does not corrupt. Fear corrupts. Perhaps the fear of loosing the power.
point there but why wld a nicee person go corrupt power or no power ! ?!

I wouldn't blame 'power' for corruption. I'd blame the person rather.
With great power, comes great responsibility and they just can't take the great responsibility that's why they seem corrupted.

I don't blame only power. This argument would just be like that 'television makes our children disrespectful' The fact is, television provides an opportunity for the children to learn profanities and other disrespectful acts, but if the parents use child lock and stuff like that and the children are obedient to their parents and not prone to misbehaving, they won't fall for it. Similarly power provides an opportunity for people to access facilities and leverages they don't deserve, often at expense of others. It just depends on the person's morals and perception. In all the civilizations you noted, you must see why the dynasties and the like corrupted. Like someone pointed out here, the new leaders and emperors did not have the vision of their forefathers, so they did not have a reason to not misuse their power. The initial rulers have gone through trials to obtain their country/control, and have established the system themselves, hence hold a strong motivation to maintain it. As the generations come and go the motivation and vigor lessens, as each successive generation is less aware of exactly how valuable the entire society is to them. Hence, eventually, civilizations come to a disastrous end because of pleasure-seeking and unconcerned rulers.

In computer games, yes. I'm baseing my argument on mmorpg private servers, fps servers and mostly clan boards. In some fps game servers the admin sets off some rules, such as "no cheating, no crying, no harasing, etc" but at the same time they threat players with bans, call players crying babies, etc.
I've seen some cases of ppl who left a froum to found one of his own.

Thankfully our admins and mods are not corrupted. Though I do remember VERY FEW admins like one or two who were corrupted but they're no longer in the team because we do not ALLOW such behavior to be adopted in SF's team members. =]
